PTC Integrity Lifecycle Manager has a long operational history in defense and aerospace. Teams at major primes have been running programs on it for fifteen or more years, and that installed base is not trivial. When a tool is embedded in a program’s processes that deeply, the instinct is to protect the investment. That instinct deserves a real examination, not a dismissal.

This is not a separate AI add-on querying a document store. The AI operates against the live graph, which means its outputs are grounded in the actual model state.

Moving to Flow Engineering means examining those workflows and deciding which ones reflect good engineering practice and which ones accumulated for historical reasons. Honest Summary

PTC Integrity did what it was designed to do, and it did it well enough that it is still running on active defense programs today. Its process configurability and workflow governance are real capabilities that some programs genuinely need.

But the architecture reflects a moment when requirements management meant managing documents with discipline. The discipline was real; the constraint was that documents are not models, and you cannot compute across them the way modern program complexity requires.

Flow Engineering represents a different architectural bet: that requirements are best understood as a graph, that AI belongs in the model rather than on top of it, and that traceability should be something the tool continuously maintains rather than something teams periodically reconstruct.
